Simple things often have a profound impact on the lives of people at the bottom of the pyramid. One such effort is chOpaal, which enables listserv-like group communication over the cell-phone SMS service. This enables low-cost coordination and interaction between social groups in the developing-world.

Currently, chOpaal.pk routes close to 1,000,000 SMS/month for many social groups, including political activists, health workers, NGOs, student groups etc. We plan to scale up our deployment for farmer communities, rescue workers, NGOs and health workers.
